NJ Transit’s Santa Train has been a tradition in the state for nearly 40 years, which is almost as long as the railroad itself. The annual event consists of a train ride with the famous Claus and a meet-and-greet in his workshop for each child. The event is completely free and is the work of hundreds of volunteers. It takes months to prepare for and requires a lot of volunteer hours, according to the president of the Railmen for Children, an organization of union railroad workers who help run the event.
The North Pole Express departs from Whippany station on weekends from December 10th until Christmas Eve.
