Whippany Actuation Systems, LLC manufactures electromechanical motion control subsystems for aerospace industry. The Company offers control electronics, motors, high power mechanical transmissions and actuators. Whippany Actuation Systems serves customers in the United States.
Actuation systems are critical onboard aircraft, converting control signals into actuator movement. These systems perform a variety of functions including controlling flight control surfaces like elevators, rudders, and ailerons, positioning thrust reversers and engine inlet guide vanes, opening and closing cargo or weapon bay doors and deploying and retracting landing gears.
In the past several decades, actuation systems have progressed from manual sources such as cables and rods to hydraulically-driven solutions. As the industry has continued to advance, system requirements have become more demanding. Force and velocity specifications, as well as total cost of ownership factors such as size, weight, reliability, safety and energy efficiency have become important. Each ounce of weight and watt of power consumed by an actuator adds to the total aircraft weight and fuel burn. With the increasing demand for greater actuation system performance, many companies are turning to electric-driven solutions.
