Whippany Actuation Systems Increases Production Capacity With Robotic Automation

Whippany Actuation Systems designs and manufactures electromechanical actuation components, systems, and subsystems for aerospace applications. The Company produces flight control, landing gear, and utility actuation products for commercial and military aircraft, as well as rotorcraft and unmanned systems. Whippany Actuation Systems also provides engineering, design, and certified repair and overhaul services for its actuation components and systems. The Company serves clients in the United States.

When the demand for specialized parts spiked, Whippany Actuation Systems needed to increase production. But the New Jersey-based manufacturer preferred to keep production in-house, and didn’t want to sink a large capital investment into a new CNC machine. So instead, the company looked into automation with a Universal Robots’ collaborative robot.

In just two years, Whippany Actuation Systems saw its ROI on the robot, and has since seen production capacity triple. Now the robot runs two additional, unattended shifts every day and is poised to handle even greater volumes in the future.
