The Whippany Railway Museum is located in Morris County, NJ and is a popular destination for tourists who enjoy learning about the history of train travel. This railroad museum was created in 1965 to complement the Morris County Central Railroad and provides a unique way to explore the area’s rich history through exhibits and train rides!
Excursion Trains
In addition to their regular schedule, the Whippany Railway Museum offers special train excursions each year. These are part of the Museum’s fundraising efforts and help to support their work in preserving and displaying historical railroad artifacts.
These excursion trains are a fun and educational way to see the town’s historic sites while riding a vintage locomotive. These trips are available at selected times throughout the year and can be booked online.
There are many things to see and do at the Whippany Railway Museum including visiting the Freight House, taking in the museum’s collection of historical artifacts, seeing the restored cabooses, and even boarding the Pumpkin Patch Train for a seasonal foliage ride!
The Museum is open Sundays, April through October. Admission costs $2 for adults and $1 for children.
A visit to the museum is a great way to spend an afternoon with your family! The train cars and other artifacts are well organized and show the progression of how trains were used from transporting goods to a sleek way to travel.
One of the best parts of this museum is that you can take a tour and ask questions about the history of the trains! They have very knowledgeable volunteers who will give you a tour and tell you all about the history of the trains.
You can also take a tour of the trains themselves and learn about all the different equipment that was used for each train. There is even a simulator that shows you what it was like to be a passenger back in the day!
