Whippany Actuation Systems designs and manufactures electromechanical actuation components and systems. The Company provides flight control, utility actuation, and landing gear actuation for commercial and military applications. Whippany Actuation Systems serves customers in the United States.
When demand for a specialized part spiked, Patrick Cain knew what he had to do: increase production capacity — and fast. But the gear machinist, who works for Whippany Actuation Systems in suburban New Jersey, didn’t have a major capital budget at his disposal. He had to either buy a new CNC machine or introduce automation.
He decided to take the latter route and contacted robot distributor, Eric Cortese. After a series of meetings, the team at Whippany Actuation Systems agreed to invest in a Universal Robots UR5e with a Robotiq 2-Finger 85 Gripper. The system would be able to safely slide open the door of the CNC machine, reach inside, grab the needed part, and then return the door to its original position. And it could do it all overnight, allowing Cain and other Whippany employees to focus on other work, like inspection and deburring.
