Located in north central New Jersey, Whippany is one of the most desirable suburban areas to live in the state. It has a great location with easy access to the train and highways. The community also boasts some of the lowest taxes in Morris County.
The township is home to many superb public amenities including the Whippany Railway Museum, the Frelinghuysen Arboretum and the Morris County Library. Patriot’s Path, a 26-mile wilderness walkway and bike trail also passes through the Township along the Whippany River. Other attractions in the area include Bee Meadow Park and Pool, Black Brook Park, Central Park, Malapardis Park, Monroe Center and Park and the Township Community Center.
Whippany is also home to a wide variety of shopping options from big chain stores in Parsippany and East Hanover to local shops and boutiques in downtown Morristown and Madison. The township has a number of outstanding schools with high test scores and great educational programs. In addition, the Township has a number of distinctive residential communities such as Eden Lane and The Grande at Hanover.
The gentle, meandering Whippany River forms the centerpiece of the Township’s natural beauty. In colonial times, the Lenape tribes used this waterway as a boundary for their territory. The river’s name, Whippanong, means “place of the arrow wood.” Today, the township seal depicts a Lenape flanked by cattail stalks, a tribute to the river’s original meaning.
During the post-World War II suburbanization of the state, Hanover Township became a popular place to settle in north central New Jersey, thanks to its low property taxes and excellent school system. Its thriving businesses, including the major corporate airport in Morristown and manufacturing companies such as Bayer, Tiffany and Company, Metlife and Novartis, lent its economy strength and stability.
Today, the population is diversified with a large number of well-paying jobs in the technology sector, service industries and financial firms. The Township is also home to a number of fine shopping centers and dining establishments, all within close proximity of the Morristown Airport.
In addition, the area is very family-friendly. It has several outstanding public schools, including Bee Meadow Elementary School, Mountview Road School, Salem Drive School and Memorial Junior School. Students in grades 9-12 attend the prestigious Whippany Park Regional High School. The Morris County Community College is also located in the township.
