Whether you’re a history buff, a train enthusiast or just a fan of the industry, Whippany train is a must-visit. Founded in 1965, this New Jersey train museum is home to the largest collection of standard-gauge steam locomotives on display in the state.
The Whippany Railway Museum is a museum dedicated to the preservation of railroad history in New Jersey and the Morris County region. It also offers excursions and rides on its own fleet of historic rail cars.
It’s a family friendly, fun museum with train exhibits, a large collection of train memorabilia and an opportunity to walk through a large yard full of antique trains. They are constantly adding new exhibits and changing the displays so you can always find something to interest you.
I really enjoyed walking through the train exhibits and learning about the different eras of train history. They have everything from equipment for the train to how trains communicated with each other, how they were used in dining car and a whole lot more. It was an educational experience for me and I loved that they allowed me to walk around the entire yard.
There are a lot of train cars in their yard that they are working to restore and make a part of the museum display. They are doing a great job of restoring them and making them look like they did years ago.
They have a huge train room where they have all sorts of train memorabilia from different eras that are displayed in glass cases. They even have pictures and flyers from all of the train excursions that they have throughout the year. They have some interesting things like the dishes that they used in train dining car from 100 years ago.
Another thing that I loved about the museum was the volunteers who work there and give tours of the train cars and the train yard. They are very detail oriented and I learned so much about each train car from them. They did an amazing job of restoring each one and it was so fun to learn about them.
You can go on a lot of train rides at the Whippany railway museum which is a great way to spend time with your kids. They have a lot of train excursions throughout the year so there is always something going on. It’s a good place to bring kids because it’s so different from the other museums I’ve been to.
A lot of times I’m hesitant to go on a train ride because it can be scary but the people at the whippany railway museum made the train ride safe and I loved that they didn’t make me feel like I was in a life threatening situation. They were very friendly and made me feel at home.
I love this place and I recommend it to everyone! They have train rides on weekends all year round and you can see a lot of different trains.
